Join us as we bring in the season's harvest and button up the farmsteads for winter with a full slate of autumn activities. See the draft horses as they pull logs from the woods to the steam-powered sawmill. Hear the saw scream as it turns logs into lumber. Smaller engine-powered buzz saws help the farmer provide lumber for the winter. Take a ride on a horse drawn-wagon, see gasoline engines make work easier for farm families, and watch as draft horses plow and plant winter wheat. We'll be cooking over wood stoves and open fires, putting garden produce into crocks and jars for the winter, and filling the larder with dried foods and herbs. There's much to do and many ways for you to help. Arrive early or come both weekends. This is one of our most popular events.

On Saturday October 6 only, from 1–4 pm, Wisconsin Historical Society Press author Lee Somerville will be signing copies of her book, Vintage Wisconsin Gardens: A History of Home Gardening in the museum store.

Also on Saturday, October 6--register for the after-hours barn dance from 6-9 pm. We'll teach you everything you need to know! Adults $10, children 5-17 $7.
