    The Prisoner of Zenda
    1937 / 101 min
Ronald Colman, Madeleine Carroll, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Raymond Massey, Mary Astor, David Niven

Colman in one of his most famous roles. The film is a faithful and beautiful adaption of the novel by Anthony Hope. Colman, an Englishman, is forced to substitute for his lookalike cousin the King of Ruritania. While posing as the king, he falls in love with the princess who is betrothed to the king. When the king is kidnapped, he is forced to keep up the façade, except his love for the Princess. Fairbanks Jr. nearly steals the show as the villainous Rupert of Hentzau. Nominated for two Academy Awards including Alfred Newman’s wonderful score.

The Movie Time film series is shown every other Wednesday. These films are presented by leading Milwaukee film historian, Dale Kuntz. Special choices from his collection of classic films from the 30s and 40s are shown on 16mm, reel-to-reel film. Most of his films are not available on DVD, so the audience has a rare opportunity to see these films in their original glory. Prior to each screening, Dale facinates the audience with his vast knowledge of film history and gives the inside scoop on each movie, including bizarre details about the stars and clues to help the auidence spot little oddities that ended up in the film instead of on the cutting room floor.
