Boulevard Theatre
Boulevard Theatre continues to be the “go to” place for the unexpected and entertaining in and around the city of Milwaukee. Boulevard began a cultural eruption when it opened its doors on Kinnickinnic 35 years ago, and the overflow of civic improvement and cultural contributions to both the Bay View neighborhood and the greater Milwaukee community continue to provide fertile soil for creative theatrical explorations and new, emerging artists. With so many theatre companies to choose from in Milwaukee, Boulevard Theatre remains a standout for our continued commitment to community, connection, and innovative creativity on the stage. We give established artisans and newcomers alike substantial opportunities for growth in artistic, administrative, and governance roles.
The Boulevard Theatre brings intimate, high-caliber theatre to its audience; we specialize in presenting lesser-known works by renowned playwrights and innovative works by emerging playwrights. Our productions are variously poignant, funny and heart-breaking — but always speak to the ages — as we seek to entertain and engage our audience. We delight our audience by presenting theatre that celebrates the written word, values intelligence and honors human experience. The Boulevard operates through collaboration and partnerships with artists, host venues, and key stakeholders. We are community-inspired, neighborhood-focused, unpretentious, happily idiosyncratic, proud of our Milwaukee resourcefulness, our frugal sensibility and our Midwestern earnestness.
No longer bound by a “bricks and sticks” theatre building, we perform in welcoming spaces such as the Plymouth UCC Church on Milwaukee’s east side near UWM. We focus on the actors and the scripts to bring intimate, intelligent, and invariably interesting theatrical performances to Milwaukee audiences.
